Cap Web Solutions is pleased to announce the launch of a new researchers’ website highlighting the lives and works of photographers operating in the late 1800s in Chester County, Pa. The site, chestercountyphotographist.org, serves as a resource for photographic historians, researchers, teachers and photography buffs.
Pamela Powell, the source behind the idea for the website, came to Cap Web Solutions with a full catalog of research on photographers. Her previous web assistant had been pulled off for another project.
Pamela and I worked together to build a site offering a variety of ways for visitors to find data on photographers operating in the late 1800s. A key requirement was that everything must be reachable with a minimal number of mouse clicks.
To accomplish this, a mega menuing system was designed and built to offer a quick snapshot into everything available on the site, allowing visitors to quickly drill down into their preferred area of interest.
The focus point of the site, the photographer biographies, are build using a custom post type with a variety of filtering terms available. Visitors to the site can filter on the municipalities where the researched photographers liver and worked, what photographic processes they used and in which decades they were operational.
The biographies themselves include a variety of photographs offering a view into the services provided by the photographers. Pamela has an extensive backlog of biographies she is working on. You can expect to see the website expand as she completes her research and adds the material to hew new website.
Stop by, offer a comment, or subscribe to her website to be alerted to new content.
The website is built using a completely block driven approach, on a customized Kadence child theme integrated with custom block libraries.
