Hi. I’m Matt Ryan. I am Cap Web Solutions. Nice to meet you.
When asked, I tell folks I get to work with small businesses every day, helping them establish and grow their presence in the biggest marketplace the world has to offer. I help small businesses get online and I love doing it.
I started out in the software industry over 30 years ago working for a . . .
Blah. Blah. Blah.
If you are so inclined to dig into history, you can check out the career details on my LinkedIn profile. Connect with me. LinkedIn is where it’s at for business networking.
Fast forward to 2012. Years of up and down the corporate food chain . . . only to hear those words . . .
We’ve decided to go in a different direction.
After finding myself on the wrong side of two business “re-alignments” in less than 2 years, the call of the website development world was too strong to resist any longer. I had been doing it on the side for a number of years and now was the time to get back to doing my own thing. I decided to give myself fully over to the grip of WordPress, PHP, Javascript and full-time website development as a freelancing entrepreneur.
The Personal Side
Please stop by and have a read on my personal blog. I have a love/hate relationship with it; but I keep trying.
When I’m not feeding my business, I’m busy in the kitchen cooking up something warm, comforting, and occasionally spicy for my wife and I. I’ve been called a coffee snob more than once. I putter regularly in my gardens. Empty nesters now, Carol and I enjoy walks through the small town heaven where we live and raised our two sons.
Local Technology Groups
I participate in a number of local WordPress meetups, one based in the Philadelphia suburbs, others in Philadelphia, Lancaster, Reading, and the Lehigh Valley. I’ve given presentations at all and enjoy sharing the knowledge I’ve gained with others. No matter how long I’m working with WordPress, I feel that I can always learn more, and then share that knowledge with someone who has been using it just a little less than I have.
I am an active participant in the Philadelphia Area Computer Society, currently serving as a director and leading the WordPress Special Interest Group (SIG), after having led the Web Design SIG for 2 years. I have delivered presentations on social media at its SIG too.
WordCamps
Now that’s where the best learning happens. WordCamps are 1 or 2-day technical conferences with numerous sessions, sponsors, swag, and lots of time to network with other WordPress’ers. I’ve attended WordCamps in Philadelphia(5x), Baltimore(3x), Lancaster(3x), Lehigh Valley(3x), and Scranton PA. I participated in the first 2 WordCamp US events in Philly and I served as a volunteer at WordCamp US 2018 in Nashville. I have presented at the Baltimore WordCamp, the Philly WordCamp, Lancaster WordCamp, and most recently at WordCamp Lehigh Valley.
About the inspiration for Cap Web Solutions
A name for the company wasn’t difficult for me. My dad, Mickey Ryan, was a big inspiration for me. Dad always encouraged me to do what would make me happy and support my family. While he and I did not always agree on everything, he always had faith in me and I know he would be proud to see this business moving ahead.
One thing about my dad, he always wore a hat, and most of the time it was a cap, you know, one of those duck-bill style caps. I inherited quite a collection from him when he passed away in 2011.
I proudly wear one of his caps, or even a new addition of my own, almost every day. With that, Cap Web Solutions was born.
All the best,
..and with that, you have the rest of the story.
